Personal Narrative- September Eleventh No one knows what tomorrow will bring or may not bring. In the course of the past year, this idea was extremely prevalent. Because of the September tragedy, many people were uneasy and unnerved about daily situations. This concern caused people to look at things in a new, almost like an â€Å"enlightenment† initiator. September the eleventh is a day I will always remember; not only for the obvious reason, but for the important way it affected my feelings towards my family. How could anyone forget the day America was attacked? I remember driving to school on the day of the attack. The Texan breeze brushed fallen leaves across the roadway as I pulled into my high school parking lot. It was a day like any other, or so I thought. During my first period class, I was supposed to play my solo and ensemble piece for one of the band directors so they could help me. As I sat in the office and played a concerto by Mozart on the French horn, the band director listening to me got a cell phone call. I stopped playing so she could answer the phone call. It was the other band director’s wife reporting the attack. The first feeling that came to me was unbelief, but as I walked around the school and saw teachers with their TV’s stationed to news channels I saw the horrific pictures. I later found out that some of my relatives were in the World Trade Center Towers that day. No one knew if they were all right. My family eventually got a phone call reporting that they had gotten out o.k. Another family member was affected by the attack. My dad, who is in the Air force, received a notice and was re-stationed to Minot, North Dakota. He was there for about a year and a half. He may be shipping out soon to go to the Middle East. With everything that had happened, there is no way that the attacks could not have affected me.

School-aged children are most frequently affected and highest incidence can be found among children between 5 to 15 years of age (2003).In addition to the above here is another facet of the virus that informs on those who are at high risk when infected with B19:[†¦] it does interfere with red cell production in the marrow; and a recipient with a compensated haemolytic anaemia may have a very abrupt and dangerous fall in haemoglobin when exposed to this virus. An immunologically impaired recipient of the virus may be unable to eliminate the virus, and severe chronic anaemia may result (C.J. van Oss, 1995).DetectionDetecting the presenc e of B19 virus in donated blood would not be an easy task. As described earlier the human parvovirus is one of the smallest DNA viruses ever found (Murphy & Pamphilon, 1995).Peterlana et al (2006) described some of the standard assays that was used for detecting the presence of B19:1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Dot Blot Hybridization – this uses cloned viral DNA and was found to be sensitive to 104 viral particles.2.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology2.1 Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) – more sensitive than Dot Blot Hybridization assay because it could detect 100 fg viral DNA (gel electrophoresis and ethidium bromide staining and 10 fg viral DNA (hybridization).2.2 nested-PCR – a thousand fold improvement in sensitivity as compared to PCR2.3 real-time PCR – this is a fluorescence-based assay, which combines amplification and detection in a closed system and can produce quantitative results in a very short time. Real-time PCR has been repo rted to be more sensitive than conventional PCR.Schneider et al., (2005) do stand by the result of real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction procedure. Eleven cont. Today I am eleven years old and after what happened at school with that stupid red sweater I just want to be home where Mama made me a cake with candles and presents. On the bus ride home from school, Sylvia Saldivar laughs and tells the entire bus what happened in class with the sweater and how I cried in front of everyone. I look over at Phyllis who is in the seat across from me, she has the ugly red sweater tucked on the side of her as she sat quietly by herself, and it makes me mad all over again. No one cares that the sweater was hers, only that I cried like a three year old in front of the class. We get to my stop and I hurriedly get off the bus not saying goodbye to anyone, not even the bus driver. No one is waiting for me at the bus stop. Is it because I am eleven now? Do they think I am able to walk home alone? Do they not care anymore? As the bus drives off, I can see Sylvia Saldivar still snickering through the back window. I stick my tongue out at her and walk away. As I am walking home I am wishing I was one hundred and two, not eleven. I wish this day was over. Everyone has forgotten my birthday, even Mama. On the way home I fall into a puddle and get my shoes, socks, and the bottom of my jeans wet. I begin to cry again, like a three year old. Today, on my eleventh birthday, this old lady, on her one hundredth birthday made me realize that I was not having such a bad day after all. She eventually tells me her name, Mrs. White. Then she offers me, some dry socks, and some cake that she baked for herself on her birthday. I gladly accept. She limps on her cane back into the house to retrieve the items as I wait outside still sitting on the curb. She comes back with a dry pair of socks, cake in a small container and a small gift bag. She hands me the items and asks if I am okay to walk home. I tell her yes, change my socks, and reach up to give her a hug. We tell each other Happy Birthday and part ways. On my walk home, I look into the gift bag, and it is a nicely knitted sweater. Not old and raggedy like the one Mrs. Price and Sylvia thought was mine. It is beautiful pink and purple sweater that I loved. I can’t wait to get home to show Mama. I get to my house and notice that Papa’s car is in the driveway. But no one came to get from the bus stop, I think. Why is Papa home so early? Why didn’t he just pick me up from the bus stop? Why didn’t Mama? I began to get upset again.
